WEG Endurance Short List Released

Twelve U.S. rider/horse combinations have been named for the last phase of the selection process. Only five rider/horse competitors will be chosen to compete in the World Endurance Championship to be held September 26 in Lexington, Kentucky, in conjunction with the World Equestrian Games (WEG).The short list selection was made following three selection trials and one observation trial this summer. Becky Hart, chef d’équipe, said the selection was made on “what horses and riders can win medals for the U.S. based on speed, fitness, soundness, recoveries, ability of riders to work in a group. We looked at adaptability of riders and crews, how crews worked and cooperated together. Team mentality was high on the list for riders and crews.”

On September 1, the following riders and their horses will advance to the final phase of training at Shaker Village at Pleasant Hill, Harrodsburg, Kentucky. On September 20, the final five-rider/horse combinations will be announced. The squad will then move to the ride venue at the Kentucky Horse Park on September 24 for the competition on the 26th.
