WEG Endurance Short List Released
Twelve U.S. rider/horse combinations have been named for the last phase of the selection process. Only five rider/horse competitors will be chosen to compete in the World Endurance Championship to be held September 26 in Lexington, Kentucky, in conjunction with the World Equestrian Games (WEG). On May 11, plans for the race were approved by the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission. Aside from Abu Dhabi’s equestrian federation, the plan was supported by prominent Arabian owners and breeders throughout the United States as well as the Keeneland Association.

This year at Scottsdale the AEPA again awarded
$100,000 to four-year-old purebred Arabian English
Performance horses. For all of us who breed for
English performance, the fact that the horses are

23rd Annual Darley Awards, sponsored by the Arabian
Racing Cup (ARC), were held Saturday, March 13,
in Houston, Texas. The big winner of the evening
was Sand Witchh (Burning Sand x *Tornade du Loup
by Tornado de Syrah) who was named Horse of the
Year as well as Three-Year-Old Filly of the Year.
Sand Witchh, bred by Dianne Waldron, is owned

Tevis Cup was canceled due to the severe wildfires
in California. The danger posed by the unpredictability
of the fires and the poor air quality caused the
organizers to think first of the safety of the horses
